I was told i have to sit on the best man’s lap while my husband-to-be takes off the garter. Is this how it’s traditionally done? Does anyone have another fun idea on how to do it?
I think sitting on the best man’s lap is a break from tradition.
The real tradition was the groom would remove the garter with his teeth. His hands were held behind his back so he couldn’t even lift the skirt except by his mouth.
It is up to the bride how far she wants her husbands head to go up under the skirt in front of all those witnesses.
Most brides shimmy the garter down to the knee and hold their skirts so they don’t show everything to the people standing around.
I would choose a style that will not embarass the majority of people attending.
